Using ink cubes to color layered die cut outs

Greetings crafty friends! I love the variety of layered floral Dies from Altenew. I often do not have a good selection of colored cardstock. Today I am planning to show you a trick for coloring the Die Cuts with Altenew coordinating ink cubes.

I started by embossing the Altenew Fantasy Floral dies on a piece of Cougar cardstock.  You will need to use the latex embossing mats for this technique.

Once this step is done, color the embossed images using blending tools or brushes and coordinating Altenew inks.

Once the coloring is done, match the dies up with the embossed grooves. I used small pieces of tape to be sure they stayed in place.  Die cut the pieces.

Assemble the pieces. I added additional interest by smooshing the floral images in the darkest floral color.

I assembled the card, popping up one of the blooms with foam tape.  The sentiment from Altenew's Heartfelt Sentiments was stamped in the darkest color.  I added contrasting lines with alcohol markers. Here is the completed card with a close up of the layering.

I hope this tutorial was helpful.  I believe it is easier coloring targeted areas plus you save on inks by not coloring the entire piece I’d cardstock.

Have a great day. Be well. Be creative.
