Altenew August 2022 Marvelous Monthly Series Release Blog Hop + Giveaway ($300 in Total Prizes!)

 Hello friends. I hope you are enjoying your summer. I'm sharing two different products from the Altenew August 2022 Marvelous Monthly Series Release Blog Hop + Giveaway ($300 in Total Prizes!). This collection features daffodils, magnolias, a peony, an anemone, and sweet star balloons. The versatile products can be mixed and matched to create many inspiring projects! I have both a layered die cut floral project as well as a Project Kit that includes both ink blending and watercoloring with stencils.

We'll start with the Project Kit Magnolia & Blooms. Altenew produces such amazing Project Kits!

I believe this is my favorite of the group. The first step was to stamp the bloom in Altenew's Obsidian Black Pigment ink, add Clear Embossing powder and heat dry before starting to watercolor. The panel is watercolor cardstock.

I used Altenew's Artist Watercolor Pan set to add the wonderful color. The large bloom started with tea party with additional colors mixed in for the layers. The purple flowers started with shades of purple. The leaves started with Tropical Forest and Green Hills.

Start with the lightest color first and fill in the larger stencil opening. It is so important to heat dry the layers before continuing, otherwise the watercolor will just blend.

Move onto the second stencil layer and add more intense pigment. I mixed my colors in the pan lid before applying them.

There are five total stencils in this set, 1 with the larger blooms, two with the smaller blooms and two with the leaves.

Once I completed all the layers, I switched to a fine tip paintbrush and added details in the nooks and crannies of the blooms and leaves. I watercolored the background with a watery mixture of Starry Night Watercolor.

I white heat embossed three encouraging sentiments from the stamp, stacked with another layer and added to the card.

The second card is water colored using the same techniques as the first one. The main difference is the blooms were stamped with a very light Distress Ink.  Floral colors used include Pocketful of Sunshine, Summer Afternoon and Warm and Cozy. 

After the watercolors were dry, I lined the image up with the embossing folder and ran through my die cut machine. I trimmed the panel down to 5 by 3.75 inched, mounted it on an orange panel and then on the A2 card base. A few splatters in orange and yellow brighten the background. A sentiment from the stamp set was stamped in Marigold Ink from the Golden Sunset Ink Cube set.

The final card of this set is ink blended instead of water colored. The layers are much more crisp. The blooms were stamped and embossed on Classic Crest Cardstock. Ink colors used include: Soft Lilac and Lavendar Fields from the Lilac Blossoms Ink set, Frayed Leaf and Forest Glade from the Green Fields Ink Cube set, and Sea Breeze from the Deep Blue Seas Ink set.

 

After the ink blending was complete, I die cut the blooms with the coordinating die. The die always leaves a white border. I decided to color the border with a coordinating alcohol ink to camoflage the image. The card panel is Blue Raspberry Cardstock, embossed with the Garden Harmony Embossing Folder.fter applying the embossed panel and blooms to the A2 card base, I die cut the smallest label from the Nesting Slim Labels set twice. I glued them together and the estimated where to place it on the card so I could Black heat emboss a sentiment from the stamp.

Now let's more to another completely different technique using the Craft A Flower Open Peony Die Set.

We had Peony bushes in one of our early home's garden and I just love the large fluffy blooms.  I always start by cutting out all my die cuts up front. I did use a smooshed green piece that I used in an earlier video for the leaves.

I used a few different pink cardstocks to create the dimensional blooms. These inlcuded Pop Tone Cotton Candy, Pop Tone Razzleberry, Star Dream Metallic Azalea and Stardream Metallic Mars. I love the way the Stardream provides a layer of shimmer in the blooms.

The dies are individual petals that are layered together to create the final bloom. I wanted to add some stability to my blooms so after assembling one, I traced around it, ran it through my Scan N Cut and cut multiple bases for the blooms.

I selected an A2 base and attached three of the final blooms with three of the green leaf die cuts. I stamped the sentiment from the More Than Words Sentiment Set on white cardstock and trimmed down. Centered between the two lower blooms, it sets the stage.

The last card uses and Embossed background using the Embossing Folder from the Always Sunshine Project Kit. I love this spray of leaves taht made the perfect backdrop for a single bloom. After embossing the panel, I ran Evergreen ink over the top of the layer to highlight the leaves.

After attaching the bloom and a few leaf sprays, I heat embossed a sentiment from the Well Read Stamp set.

I love the dimension created with the Embossing Folder and the layered Flower.
