Snowy Winter Tag and Card

Getting ready for the holidays here at CutCardStock. Today I am showing you how to create a home decor winter tag plus a matching card!

Create the Winter Tag and Card Panels
I love 100% Savoy Cotton Cardstock for different types of projects. It is perfect for ink smooshing and spraying as it can handle the extra water needed to achieve the look you are going for! It is also great for letterpress techniques.

This large background panel was created by spritzing the Savoy 8.5 x 11-inch panel with water and spraying with Tumbled Glass and Salvaged Patina Distress Sprays. After dipping and drying the layers, add Shiny Bauble Mica Spray to the mix and set aside to dry.

Trim the Panels

You will need to create a tag panel plus an A2 card panel. Cut the inked panel in half to make a 5.5 x 8.5 tag. You also will need a Kraft Chipboard Cardstock panel the same dimensions to add strength. After gluing the water colored panel to the chip board base, trim the top corners at an angle to create a tag and cut a hole in the center top. I used a small circle die for this.

Trim the extra Savoy Cardstock into an A2 card base 4.0 x 5.25 inches.

Stamp and Die Cut the Elements

Use the new Mr. Frostie Stamp from Stampers Anonymous by Tim Holtz and stamp the larger snowman plus sentiments in alcohol friendly ink. Use Copic Markers or watercolor markers to add dimension and color to the snowmen. Fussy cut two snowman – you do not need to cut the arm branches as they will be visible below the images on the tag and card. The sentiment is stamped directly on the card base and on a strip for the tag.

Plan the placement of the snowmen on the card and panel, and stamp again on the tag and card front. White emboss additional snowflakes randomly on both panels.

Next is to create the snowflakes. Cut the larger snowflake using 110 lb. Translucent Clear Cardstock.

Use the Bigz Layered Snowflake die and folder to emboss the image. Add sparkle by coating with embossing ink, sparkle embossing powder and heat setting.

Die cut all the other elements- the smaller snowflake and the skates, Use Silver Stardream Metallic Cardstock for the blades, and Cougar 100 lb. White Cardstock for the boots.

Finish the skates with tan thread using a blanket stitch to mimic the laces. Be sure to leave extra thread to attach to the base. Edge with Vintage Photo ink to age them.

Assemble the Winter Tag and Card

Stitch around the perimeter of both the card panel and the tag for interest.

Attach the card panel to an A2 base made with 110 Cougar Cardstock (my favorite for bases). For the card base, glue the smaller snowflake to the upper left section. Add foam tape to the fussy cut snowman and center over the stamped image.

To finish the tag, use Glossy Accents to attach the larger snowflake to the upper left of the tag. Use a poker tool to punch two holes in the center of the snowflake. Use the same thread and run it through the two holes to create a place to tie the skates to. Tie the skates to the snowflake. Attach the lower skate to the panel and add foam tape to the top skate to pop it up. Add foam tape to the other snowman and center over the stamped image.

Tear a piece of 100 lb. White Cougar to create a snowbank for the snowman. Attach to the bottom of tag and run a line of glue over the top. Sprinkle with sparkly flakes for the snow. Trim the sentiment strip and add to the top of the snow bank.

Create a bow by using seam binding and inking with a coordinating Distress Ink Color. Tie to the top hole and you have a completed winter home decor piece!
