Letterpress with Hot Foil Plates

Greetings friends. Have you tried to letterpress with hot foil plates? Today I am posting letterpress cards for CutCardstock.

Check out the great dimension when letter pressing on Savoy 100% Cotton Letterpress Cardstock!

Letterpress the Card Panels

Start by trimming the 100% Cotton Savoy to 4.25 x 5.5 inches.

Ink the foil plate. I used a couple of different techniques to ink the plates. I will detail below each card.

Use the Adorned Frame Hot Foil Plate from Altenew and run Altenew’s Ultimate Metallic Pigment plate over the hot foil plate being careful not to add ink to the center opening.

Set up your sandwich for your die cutting machine. I used two plates plus the rubber embossing pad. The sandwich order for mine was plate, embossing mat, foil plate inked side up, Cotton Cardstock and a second plate.

Run through your die cut machine and carefully pick up the hot foil plate.

Use the Here Comes the Sun Hot Foil Plate from Altenew for this sunny background. This time, use a small brayer to add the inks. Use Distress Oxide ink to get better coverage. The consistency of the ink plays well on the plate.

Use Mustard Seed over the sun and fan out using Carved Pumpkin Oxide inks. Follow the same steps and use the same sandwich to impress the sun.

Use Wonderful Tulips Hot Foil Plate from Spellbinders to create this lovely arrangement.

Use Picked Raspberry to add the pink to the debossed areas following the procedures above.

Assemble the Cards – Adorned Frame

Trim a piece of Gold Cardstock to 4.0 x 5.25 inches and attach to a card base made with Cougar 100 lb. Cardstock. Trim the letter pressed piece to 3.75 x 5.0. Attach to the front card base. Use Altenew’s Hello and Hugs Die to die cut the word hugs three times and layer for dimension. Add a few gold sequins.

Check out the depth and dimension!

Here is another version using the gold letter pressed frame.

Emboss a 4.25 x 5.5 piece of the same gold cardstock using Altenew’s Mod Squares 3D Embossing Folder. Attach to a Cougar 100 lb. card base. Trim the letter pressed piece allowing a small edge.

Gold heat emboss the sentiment from Altenew’s Colorful Soul set. Use fun foam to pop up the center panel. Add a few sequins and you are done!

Assemble the Card – Wonderful Tulips

The next two cards use Distress Oxide inks and a brayer to apply color.

Trim the letter pressed panel to 4.0 x 5.25. Trim a piece of Pop Tone Razzleberry Cardstock to 4.25 x 5.5 and attach to a Cougar Cardstock A2 cardbase.

White heat emboss a sentiment from Altenew’s Colorful Soul set. Die cut two more pieces of pink cardstock and pop up the sentiment, attaching to the upper left area of the card.

Assemble the Card – Here Comes the Sun

Here is one more example using Altenew’s Here Comes the Sun plate.

Trim a piece of Pop Tone Orange Fizz to 4.0 x 5.25 and attach to an A2 Cougar Cardstock Cardbase. Trim the sunny letter pressed piece to 3.75 x 5.0 inches and apply to the front.

Use Altenew’s Bold Sentiments to stamp the sentiment using Carved Pumpkin Distress Oxide ink. Cover with clear embossing powder and heat emboss. Add two layers of white cardstock and glue to the card front.
