Hero Arts December Challenge: Shake It Up

Hello friends! I am so excited to be a guest designer for A Blog Named Hero's December Challenge! What an honor!

Jennifer McGuire recently featured a pop-up card. I took it to the next level by adding a shaker panel inside the card! Check out the envelope as well!

I started by ink smooshing cool HeroArts Reactive Inks on a 5.5 x 8.5 inch watercolor paper. Colors used: Pool Party, Blue Raspberry and Blue Hawaii. Together they created such a beautiful mix of colors for the background.

Next, I white heat embossed snowflakes from the Coloring Layered Snowflake set on the inked panel plus a few extra ones. I trimmed one 4.00 x 5.25 inch panel for the shaker panel and die cut one of the snowflakes for the front of the card.

I created the pop-up panel by trimming white cardstock to 5.5 x 7.25 inches. I then scored at 1/2, 1.0 and 1.5 inches on each short side of the main panel

I trimmed a 4.25 x 5.5 inch inked panel and matched the center scored piece with the inked panel. I cut a rounded rectangle window using Hero Arts Rounded Rectangle Infinity Die. I used the Wish Ornament Die to cut the word Wish from holographic and white cardstock. I created a stacked sentiment by gluing the holographic cardstock onto two white cardstock words. Be sure when you trim the word, that you leave extra cardstock on both ends to attach the word between the ink smooshed piece and the pop-up base.

The shaker panel was created by adding tape runner to the back of the inked panel and cutting a piece of clear packaging to 1/2 inch larger on all sides. I used a piece of the clear packaging that is used for stamps and dies.

Fold over three sides of the clear packaging and run a bone folder over to assure a good seal. You will need to cut the corners so the packaging lays flat. I added a piece of red tape to the top and filled the pocket with miscellaneous sequins from my stash including some large and small snowflakes.

I attached the shaker pocket to the base of an A2 card base and attached the folded pop-up piece on top. I added an embossed snowflake on the outside lower left.

The card ended up being too thick to mail in a regular A2 envelope, so I pulled out my envelope punch board and created one slightly larger that the card. Most boards have all the measurements, so it is easy to find the correct dimensions.

I stamped the envelope using Blue Raspberry Reactive ink and a few stamps from the Color Layering Snowflake set.
