Mixed Media Journal Made with an Amazon Mailing Bag

 Hello friends. I am posting today for The Funkie Junkie Boutique. I am taking a short break from my Etcetera Tags to create this fun journal from a cereal box and a mailing envelope!

Check out all this vintage style goodness wrapped around printing on the padded envelope. How grungy is this?

It all starts off with a cereal box trimmed to have 2 panels 5 x 6 inches plus 2 1/2 inch x 6 inch piece for the spine. I glued 2 1/2 inch pieces together for the spine.  I worked on the inside of the book first starting with a 12 x 12 piece of printed paper from one of Tim Holtz's collections. I trimmed it down to 11.5 x 6.5 inches by lining up my T ruler and tearing the excess to create a grungy edge.

After locating the center, I added pencil marks and glued the spine in place. The T ruler came in handy when aligning the front and back pieces of the cereal box. I then trimmed the mailer down using the same tearing technique. After attaching the front, I used by craft sewing machine to sew around the edges with black thread.

Here is the entire cover. As you can see I have lots of grungy goodness along with The Professor, stencils, stamps and journal cards.

Here is a photo of the inside of the book. Originally, I thought I'd be able to decorate the pages and complete the entire book, I've decided that is for another post!

The pages are made using Royal Sundance Fiber Kraft Cardstock (my favorite Kraft). After cutting the 8.5 x 11-inch pieces in half, I trimmed them with my Deckle Edge Trimmer.  I used 8 full pieces of cardstock to create 4 pocket pages. When using your tape runner to attach 2 pieces together, you can leave a pocket at either the top or side by leaving the tape runner off of that end. 

After using my Score Board to score the center line, I punched holes with a poker tool in the score line to sew the book together. I made 4 sets of holes with 2 in each line. One hole at the top and bottom was about 1 inch in and two holes were added in the center. The second photo shows where the holes are on the spine.
